Jane Red is a contemporary artist developing an evolving visual mythology around the human figure. Combining symbolic imagery, saturated colour, organic forms, and changing approaches to figuration and abstraction, her practice examines belief, identity, desire, conformity, and the systems that shape contemporary life.
At the centre of her work is a recurring figure with a heart instead of a head — an iconographic sign that moves through different visual worlds, acquiring new meanings along the way.
Based in Seoul, Red is currently developing Contemporary Icons, an ongoing project about the objects, images, rituals, and ideas to which contemporary people give power.
